(June 25, 2008) -- The “Baddest Door Car Show on the Planet” lived up to its billing June 20-22 as the Southern Outlaws Tour and heads-up racing giant ORSCA combined forces at MMP. The result was a pair of 3-second 1/8 mile runs, a national record and some awesome racing.

Southern Outlaws Pro Extreme Low Qualifier Dwayne WatkinsSouthern Outlaws Nitrous and Blower Pro Mods put on a real show with Dwayne Watkins turning in a 3.936 at 186 to take the low qualifier spot. Pro Mod legend Bill “Big Money” Clanton was next with a 3.973 at 189 miles per hour. The bump spot was an awesome 4.063, by far the fastest Pro Mod field in the history of Montgomery Motorsports Park. Over in the Pro Nitrous class, ADRL world champ Jamie Hancock of Opelika set the pace with a torrid 4.132 at 174 mph. The nitrous bump spot was an impressive 4.277.

Southern Outlaws Pro Nitrous Winner Keith BakerOn race day, as usual, things turned around as Dwayne Watkins met Michael Neal in the finals. Neal ran a 4.144 at 176.92 to take the win. Over in the Nitrous class, Keith Baker made a solo pass after finalist Tim Savell had a wicked Nitrous fire as he approached the starting line.

The ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 winner got to the finals the hard way. Ken Rainwater of Birmingham suffered through parts and pieces breaking on three consecutive runs, resulting in an all-day thrash. He met Bill Jewett in the finals and came out on top with a 4.67 at 166.75 to Jewett’s 4.857 at 157.06.

Limited Street Winner Jeff PaulkLimited Street winner Jeff Paulk ran the table as he snagged low qualifier and class winner titles. Paulk met Jeff Cooner in the finals and took it with a 4.905 at 156.41 to Cooner’s 5.106 at 155.19

EZ street champ Steve Jackson won with a 5.069 at 147.10mph in the finals against Chad Henderson and also set ORSCA world records for both ET and MPH. The Modified Street Champ was Brian Murphy of Elkmont, AL. He tooled his Mustang to a 5.517 at 131.04 mph to defeat low qualifier Stacy Parker, who ran a quicker but losing 5.488 at 132.52.

5-0 winner Jeremy EllisDefending ORSCA 5.30 champ Jeremy Ellis showed he’d have no problem with the new 5.0 standard has he defeated hometown hero and 2007 ORSCA 5.30 number three racer Lester Pitts in the finals. Ellis ran a 5.016 to slide inside Lester’s 5.028.

In 6.0, Blaine Aldridge defeated Michael Strickland in the finals. Aldridge ran a breakout 5.969 but got away with it when Strickland turned on the reds with an -.006 light.

7-0 winner Josh MackeyOpelika racer Josh Mackey took the 7.0 crown as he edged Calera, AL racer Rick Pennington. Mackey ran a 6.999, a smaller breakout than Pennington’s 6.990.

The Mullis Super 7 tour returns to Montgomery Motorsports Park July 5-6 with increased purses for Footbrake racers and the chance for Super Pros to win $10,000. Coming up on July 12 is a huge car show and “Night of Fun” to benefit the fight against cancer.
