(May 6, 2007) -- The Comp Cams/TCI Heads Up Series event at Montgomery MotorSports Park on Saturday (5/5) featured some surprising winners, some favorites coming through in the clutch, and a lot of hometown heroes.  The large field competed in five heads-up classes as well as Super Pro and Footbrake Bracket competitions.

Three Montgomery area racers took wins Saturday:  Buddy Baggett of Montgomery continued his domination of the 6.0 heads up class with a win over Scott Olin of Cottondale, AL.  Baggett had a nearly perfect reaction time of .002 and steered his 1967 Chevy Nova to a 6.082 second run at 99.91 miles per hour for the win.  Olin ran a 6.143 at 117.09 miles per hour.  John Cooper of Jasper, AL and Stacy Parker of Houston, AL were the semi-finalists.

Wetumpka racer Cole Cousins took the 7.0 class win with the '68 Camaro his father Doug used to race.  Cousins ran a 7.023 at 92.33 miles per hour to defeat Jerome Terry of Trinity, AL who ran a 7.022 but couldn't make up a starting line deficit.  Huntsville, AL racer Steve Cothren was the lone-semi-finalist.

Drag racing legend Toby Barnes of Newnan, Georgia took the Footbrake title in a win over James Garrett of  McCalla, AL.  Barnes ran a 7.520 on a 7.48 second dial at 88.94 miles per hour in his Pontiac for the win.  Garrett dialed a 6.34 but ran one thousandth of a second under that for the breakout loss.
