Hitman Hits Tree to Take $10,000 10.5 Outlaw Crown at World War IV

(Oct. 17, 2006) -- It wasn't going to happen twice to 10.5 Outlaw ace
Mike Hill. He lost a $5,000 winner take all shootout Saturday night at
Montgomery MotorSports Park's World War IV on a hole shot to fellow Georgian
Steve Kirk. Hill had the faster ET (4.527 to Kirk's 4.529) but didn't match
up on the tree.
The
two staged a repeat Sunday night in the 10.5 Outlaw finals and Hill drilled
the tree with an .010 for the win. His 2006 Mustang snarled its way to a
4.586 at 160.59 miles per hour; Kirk, from Monroe, Georgia, had a quicker
but losing 4.527 at 168.44 miles per hour after losing a ton on the tree.
Jimmy Blackmon of Rockmart, GA and Marcus Birt of Gray, GA were the
semi-finalists.
A field of almost 200 cars blasted its way through qualifying Saturday and
into eliminations Sunday at MMP. When the dust had cleared, Jeff Cooner of
Townley, Al won the Limited Street title over Keith Szabo of Gainesville,
GA. Cooner ran a 4.987 at 153.58 mph to a 5.111 at 136.28 for Szabo. Mike
Jones of Hazel Green, AL was the lone semi-finalist.
In
the 4.70 Outlaw class final, well known racer and promoter Gerry "Shag
Nasty" Dawkins of Hueytown and the Birmingham Bad Boyz took the win over
Selma's Wendell Smitherman; Dawkins carded a 4.841 at 145.70 to a 5.124 for
Smitherman. Scott McCain of Opelika and Geno Wright of Atlanta were the
semi-finalists.
The Real Street winner was Chuck Lawrence of Dallas, Georgia. HE managed a
5.365 at 130.47 miles per hour in the finals to defeat Ed Rice, whose '91
Mustang ran a 5.579 at 117.21. Randy Henry of Greensboro, AL was the lone
semifinalist.
The
5.30 crown went to Jeremy Ellis of Phenix City, AL. His '67 Chevy II made a
5.515 pass at 103.74. Runner up Phillip Sexton of McDonough, GA broke on the
starting line. Wendell Smitherman and P Owens of Luverne were the
semi-finalists.
In the 6.0 competition, Dana "Shut Up" Kloet of Birmingham came out on top
of a tough field. In the finals, Kloet ran a near-perfect 6.003 at 113.19 to
defeat perennial MMP hitter Kevin Pruett, who ran just under the index with
a 5.998 at 113.40. Monty Carter from Childersburg, AL and Montgomery racer
Buddy Baggett were the semi-finalists.
The 7.0 winner at World War IV was Chuck Aldridge of Adamsville, AL. He used
a killer .011 light and a 7.053 at 92.88 to defeat runner-up Mark Armstrong
of Stockbridge, GA. Mark ran a 7.090 at 97.86 mph in the finals. Bubba
Wright of Clanton and Josh Mackey of Opelika were the semi-finalists.
Fans of heads-up racing won't have to wait long for more action at MMP as
several promoters have announced plans for events at the track. Coming up
October 27-29 is the incredible all-Footbrake $100,000

Classic featuring a huge $100,000 to win race on Saturday sandwiched by
a pair of $5,000 to win races.
