Pro Winner Teddy Epperson

Pro ET Winner Teddy Epperson

(April 10, 2006) -- They should have seen Sycamore, Alabama racer Teddy Epperson coming; he's at Montgomery MotorSports Park almost every week in his primer-gray '67 Camaro. Saturday night (April 8), though, it was obvious that Epperson was on a roll. In the three rounds before the Pro ET final, he was nearly perfect on the tree and dialing his car. The finals was another case of it being Epperson's night as he defeated registered nurse Jamie Wilkinson of Fultondale, AL. Epperson dialed a 6.72 and ran a 6.739 at 100.54 miles per hour. Jamie ended the race on the starting line with an -.008 red light foul and her Huntsville Engine-powered dragster roared to a 4.950 on a 4.94 dial at 138.16 miles per hour. Heavy Hitter Kevin Pruett of Millbrook (AL) was this week's semi-finalist.

Drag racing is a generational sport with fathers and mothers helping their children find joy in the sport. That happened to Hampton, Georgia racer Mike Dike. The son of former NHRA Division Two champ Mike Dike, Mike Junior made his mark with a Footbrake win at Montgomery MotorSports Park. Dike defeated Jemison (AL) racer Bryan Robinson in the finals. Dike's '72 Nova ran a 7.255 on his 7.12 dial at 85.71 miles per hour, but the important number was the sterling .009 reaction time he turned in. Robinson's '71 Camaro ran a 6.994 on h is 6.98 dial at 97.77 but couldn't overcome the starting line disadvantage. The semi-finalists were father and son, Larry and Ben Willis of Ashland, AL.

Jr Dragster winner Morgan Wood

In the Jr. Dragster wars, the girls whipped the boys as Morgan Wood of Hoschton, Georgia took the win over Buford, (GA) racer Chase Mullinax. Wood dialed her junior at 7.95 and then did the deed with a 7.952 run at 81.25 miles per hour. Mullinax had dialed a 7.90 and ran a 7.951 at 72.57 miles per hour.  Ashley Martin of Alabaster, Alabama was the semi-finalist.

Preparations are already under way for the Capitol City Nationals April 22-23 at MMP. Pro ET racers will gun for a $10,000 top prize each day with Footbrakers racing for a $1,000 top prize each day. The track will be open for parking at noon on Friday, April 21 with a Test and Tune session available from 6pm - 11pm on Friday for an additional $10 charge.
