"Midnight Madness” Debuts March 4 at MMP
“Don’t take it to the street….bring it to the drag strip.” That is the
basic principle behind “Midnight Madness”, a special test and tune
/grudge racing session at Montgomery MotorSports Park each Saturday night.
The first Midnight Madness will be Saturday, March 4 following the
track’s Saturday bracket racing program for Super Pro and Footbrake race
cars.
“Midnight Madness” is an opportunity for all licensed drivers with
street-legal cars to enjoy the sport of ¼ mile drag racing in a safe and
controlled atmosphere. MMP officials say they hope this new session with
its nominal $10 cost for both participants and spectators will encourage
young people to test their cars in the safe confines of the drag strip
rather than on the street.
“At my other tracks in Huntsville and Sumiton (near Birmingham), police
say our Midnight Madness nights have significantly cut down on the
dangerous problem of street racing,” said Montgomery MotorSports Park
promoter George Howard.
All cars participating in the new session must have mufflers and be
otherwise street-legal.
Also making a 2006 debut on March 4 is the Montgomery MotorSports Park
bracket program. Gates at the track will open at 4pm with time trials
beginning at 5pm and round one of eliminations at 7pm. Super Pro racers
will compete for a $1,000 top prize; the winner’s share in the Footbrake
class is $500. Footbrake racers will be able to race for only the cost of
a spectator admission.
