Montgomery MotorSports Park Re-Opens
Legendary promoter George Howard reassumes
the reins
(Feb. 10, 2006) -- Legendary drag
racing promoter George Howard re-opens Montgomery MotorSports Park today.
“I’m delighted we were able to work this out; Montgomery MotorSports
Park is a world class facility. We will hold weekly Friday Test 'N' Tune
Sessions as well as a Saturday bracket racing program and some special
events,” said Howard.
Howard says the first event at MMP will be a Test 'N' Tune session
beginning at 6pm on Friday, February 10. Any licensed driver can run his
or her street car or full-out race car on the ¼ drag strip as many times
as they like during the evening for a single $10 fee.
“I intend to do a lot of what I know best, which is offer drag racers
great events with guaranteed purses at a fair price,” Howard added.
Howard indicates he will be making major improvements to the track’s pit
areas, tower and other infrastructure. He also announced a two-day event
February 25 and 26 with $10,000 for the winner each day in Super Pro and
$1,000 each day to the Footbrake winner. The event is expected to draw
hundreds of racers from around the country.
The Montgomery track, which has been dark since late 2005, has been the
site of National Hot Rod Association Divisional events as well as two
Million Dollar Drag Races, the “super bowl” of bracket drag racing
invented by George Howard 11 years ago and won in 2005 by Rainsville,
Alabama racer Jeff Rucks.
